Culture-centric Healthcare for Pasifika Communities

The Fono

Overview

The Fono, New Zealand’s largest Pasifika healthcare organisation, partnered with us to design and build a culturally relevant website that enhances health and wellbeing service delivery for Pasifika communities.

The Context

The Fono is dedicated to improving the lives of Pasifika communities by providing health, wellbeing, and educational services that are culturally appropriate and responsive to the unique needs of these communities. As part of their ongoing digital transformation, The Fono needed a website that not only aligned with their mission but also catered specifically to users whose primary languages are from the Pasifika language tree. The goal was to create an intuitive, accessible platform that would empower Pasifika individuals and whanau to access vital health services, information, and resources.

The Work

Our team of experience strategists, cultural strategists and product designers collaborated closely to develop a website that is deeply rooted in Pasifika culture. We designed the site to offer a seamless user experience in multiple languages, ensuring that users could easily navigate the platform in their preferred language. The website was built to provide intuitive access to a wide range of services, including appointment bookings, clinical knowledge sharing and affordable care options, all while staying true to The Fono’s culturally-centred care.

The Outcome

The redesigned website gives patients and whanau access to wider health and wellbeing services, including virtual consults, affordable care options and The Fono’s wrap-around services… all available in Samoan, Tonga and Te Reo Māori. This enables Fono’s healthcare workers are also able to more effectively deliver services critical to communities’ health and wellbeing.
